Congratulations to the BNT 05 boys, who recently made soccer history by becoming the first team from Idaho to win the U13 Far West Regional League NW Division. Through its success in the FWRL, the team has earned an automatic berth to compete in the 2018 U.S. Soccer Region IV Championships next June 18-24 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
“This is an incredible accomplishment for an Idaho team,” says the team’s coach Matt Billings. “Competing, consistently, with this level of competition is an immense task and unfortunately an environment that cannot be replicated in Idaho. So to be given the opportunity to match ourselves with the Pacific Northwest’s best players, and win, speaks volumes towards the gifts this team possesses. All the credit goes to them.”
The Far West Regional League provides an opportunity for the most competitive teams in the region to compete at a higher level of play. The FWRL Northwest Division is comprised of the top teams from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia, Canada. The teams must qualify to play in the league by winning State Cup tournaments or other league play.
The top finishers in each age group earn a spot for the prestigious regional championships, as well as the opportunity to compete in the highly competitive U.S. Youth Soccer National League for the following season.
“Our team has been working hard all year to earn this once in a lifetime opportunity to compete against the best teams in the region,” says Kai Hatten, one of the team’s central midfielders. “It is amazing to turn our hard work, effort, and grit into something bigger.”
